History of the Smith
A Brief History of The Smith of All Trades
The Smith of All Trades was born from a lifelong love of craftsmanship and fantasy, sparked in childhood among the sights, sounds, and stories of Renaissance fairs and mountain man festivals near Yellowstone. Surrounded by leather, steel, fire, and history brought to life, a fascination took root early—one that blurred the line between imagination and tangible craft. Those early experiences instilled not only wonder, but a deep respect for the makers who turned raw materials into tools, armor, and art.
That passion eventually led to the opportunity to train under a professional armorer, spending two and a half years learning traditional techniques, historical construction methods, and the discipline required to create functional, durable pieces. This formal training became the foundation upon which broader skills were built, expanding into leatherworking, jewelry, and fine finishing through years of dedicated practice and experimentation.
What began as curiosity evolved into a workshop focused on versatility and mastery. The Smith of All Trades embraces the philosophy that a true smith is not limited to a single medium or style. Each piece—whether armor, accessories, or custom commissions—is handcrafted with an emphasis on quality, wearability, and character, drawing inspiration from history, fantasy, and the individuality of the wearer.
Today, The Smith of All Trades stands as a fusion of old-world craftsmanship and modern creative expression, creating functional art for Renaissance fairs, fantasy worlds, cosplay, and alternative communities. Every project carries the spirit of those early festival days: a love for craft, story, and the magic of something made by hand.
